Custodial

  1. What are the hours of operations for the custodial staff?

Custodians work from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday,
excluding holidays. They start early to provide sufficient time to clean the
classrooms and bathrooms before classes begin. Meal break is from 10:00 am
    to 10:30 am.

  2. What are the primary duties of the Custodial staff?

Custodians clean the bathrooms, floors and empty trash. They also set up the
stage, deliver and setup the tables and chairs for all events. They do not
dispose of hazardous waste such as chemicals, toxins, etc. It is the
responsibility of the generator of this waste to properly dispose of hazardous
    waste.

For emergency custodial services, call Francis "Aki" Hirota at 455-0276.

  3. How do I request for movements and setups?

A five working day notification period is required. The five days are
especially needed for setting up stages, chairs, and tables. A movement
request form with attachments, if appropriate, should be submitted. The
approval of the Division Chair, Dean, or Director is required. If appropriate, a
facility use authorization form should be on file with Security. (See Security
    for more details).

  4. What is required on a movement request?

The movement request should clearly specify the services requested. The date
of the event, and the hours of the event should be specified. It is critical the
contact person and phone number be provided. In addition, the time for the
service (setup, etc) should be specified. The need for both the time of the
event and the time of setup is to resolve conflicts.

  5. a. For stage setup – the size of the stage is required. LCC's stage comes in
4' x 8' segments. For example, an 8' x 8' stage (two segments) can be
provided. A 10' x 8' stage cannot be provided, since it is not a multiple of
    4' x 8'.

    b. The number of chairs should be specified. LCC has approximately 150
    chairs.

    c. The number and size of the table should be specified. LCC has 32 eight
(8') foot tables, and 8 six (6') foot tables. If the desired size is not
available, the other size will be substituted to make up the total quantity
    requested.

    d. A diagram of the configuration is required, especially if a stage is
requested. The diagram should clearly indicate the direction the stage
should face, the seating arrangements, etc.

    e. The contact person's name and telephone number must be provided. The
person should be available (on campus), when the movement is taking
place. The contact person should be knowledgeable and authorized to
approval changes/modifications to the work request.

  6. Why would my request be denied?

We will attempt to complete your request, as specified. However, there are
several typical reasons for not completing the request for which you will be
    notified.

  7. a. The movement request does not have the approving signature.

    b. The movement request is late and other competing priorities prevent the
    reallocation of resources.

    c. The movement request is incomplete. Typically, layout and/or
    configuration are omitted or incomplete.

    d. Another individual/group has reserved the stage, tables, and/or chairs
    during the same time period.

    e. The work must be done on overtime and no funds are available.

    f. The movement request is to move a piano or computers. Custodians do not
move pianos. Note: boxed computers can be moved, but will require
someone present to supervise the move. Because the computers are
boxed, there is no way to assess if the computers are damaged. A user-
supervised move of the boxed computers will assist the user in eliminating
LCC as the cause of the damages and filing a claim for damages.

    g. The work requested creates an unsafe situation for the general campus
    population.

    h. The furniture and/or other items are not ready for movement. The
contents of the desk and filing cabinets must be emptied before these items
    can be moved.

  8. When are movements of furniture made?

Movements of stages, furniture, etc are typically made after 8:30 am, Tuesday
through Fridays. The janitors are busy cleaning classrooms prior to this time.
Monday is usually a very busy cleaning/maintenance day and movements are
    not normally scheduled.

  9. Do custodians pickup recyclable goods?

    a. Yes, janitors will pickup recyclable products such as newspapers, cans,
etc, if they are properly bundled. Boxes must be flattened, and plastics
and cans bagged in plastic trash bags. For pickup, call Francis Hirota, 455-
0276. Pickup is made Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays of each week,
generally following the day of the call.

    b. The college also has a Recycling Bin in the UH West Oahu parking lot.
The bin is on the Diamond Head/Pearl Harbor side of the parking lot. The
college encourages you to bring dispose of your recyclable goods in this
    bin.

  10. Can I borrow the carts from the Custodians?

    Carts are not loaned out.

Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Grounds

  1. What are the hours of operations for O&M and Grounds?

O&M and Grounds operate from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Monday through
Fridays, excluding holidays. Lunch is from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.

  2. What are the primary duties of Operations & Maintenance (O&M)?

O&M primary function is to repair what has been working on campus. O&M
does not do new construction during regular work hours. New construction is
not considered to be part of the normal maintenance duties. Rather, the
requestor has a choice of having O&M perform the work after hours, or
contracting the work to an outside contractor. O&M is generally less
expensive and more responsive than outside contractors. In either case, the
requester will bear the cost of the new construction.

  3. How do I submit a request for service?

Emergency repairs should be called in to 455-0462 (Derrick Uyeda) or 455-
0275 (Fred Lerza). Pat Dingle, at 455-0433 also has access to the campus
mobile radio. During non-working hours, call Security at 455-0611. For non-
emergency requests, a work order should be submitted.

  4. What items are not repaired by O&M?

O&M will repair/maintain most of the infrastructure on campus, such as air
conditioning, power panels, water drains, sprinklers, etc. However, certain
specialty items such as gas equipment, scientific equipment, etc. need to be
maintained by the manufacturer or the authorized representative. Please call
O&M at 455-0462, to discuss specific items.

  5. How do I submit a request for changes in my telephone system?

A Telecommunication Request (Form UHTR Form 1A (Rev. 9/96) should be
submitted to the Auxiliary Service Officer (O&M), with the appropriate
approvals. Currently, the Leeward Community College PBX system is near
capacity. LCC is planning to upgrade the system, Fall 2002.

  6. How do I repair my cart?

O&M will repair the carts on campus. However, the requestor pays the cost
of the parts including tires. Note: due to vacancies, O&M will not be
repairing carts. O&M will facilitate the repair of the carts, through an outside
vendor. The respective departments will bear the entire cost of repair.

  7. How do I request a tent?

LCC has four 20' x 20' tarp-type tents. Reservations should be made with
Derrick Uyeda (Auxiliary Services, 455-0462) for the use of the tents. O&M
will setup the tents. The work request should be submitted at least five days
    in advance.

LCC also has a 20' x 20' carnival-type tent available. Because of the need
jointly plan the use of this tent, the request to use this tent must be submitted
at least 35 days in advance.

  8. Where can I store things?

Because of future plans, the DA basement is generally used for temporary
storage only. A specific removal date will be required prior to storing nay
material in the basement. Storage area is difficult to find. O&M will assist
    the best it can.

THERE ARE SEVERAL LOCATIONS WHERE STORAGE IS NOT
PERMITTED AT ANY TIME. The prohibition is based on the building codes
    or C&C safety ordinances.

There shall be no storage in fire escapes, in front of fire alarms, in front of fire
alarms pulls, near fire sprinkler heads, no storage that blocks fire exits, no
storage closer than three (3) feet in front of an electrical panel and no storage
of combustible materials in any classrooms, classroom closets, unless in
proper fire proof containers. There are no exceptions to the above
prohibitions. In additions, boxes/material should not be stored in public areas
such as the bathrooms, Campus Center, hallways, parking lot, etc. that creates
an eyesore or safety hazard to the campus.

  9. What if I am scheduling an event on the grassy area?

Auxiliary Services should be notified at least five days in advance, if you're
planning to use the grassy area. The sprinkler system is being converted to a
timed system, with most of the watering occurring in the early morning. The
timer must be turned off several days in advance to prevent the area from
    being muddy/wet.

  10. Can I borrow or use the tools and equipment in O&M?

O&M does not loan out any tools or permit the use of its equipment, including
    carts.

  11. How do I extend the time for air conditioning in my area?

The air conditioning schedule is based on the class schedule. If different
hours of operations are desired, then a work request should be submitted,
indicating the time and dates, for the variance.

Extending the air conditioning is a direct increase of utility cost to the campus.
Therefore, such requests should be reasonable and required. The air
conditioning is controlled by floors. That is, only the entire floor can be
extended; not smaller increments such as offices or single classrooms.

A work request should be submitted to O&M five days in advance, requesting
the extension. The specified period (start and end) must be specified. If the
extension of the air conditioning is attributed to an OCET-approved event,
then OCET should provide the direction to extend the air conditioning. The
exception is the Theatre, where a separate process is in placed due to
numerous rehearsals and performances.

Security

  1. What are the hours of Security?

Security is on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security's number
    is 455-0611.

  2. If I call, will Security open the door to offices, classrooms, etc?

Security will NOT open the door for any unauthorized person. Unauthorized
    persons include:

  3. Can I drive my vehicle on the campus sidewalk for deliveries, etc.?

For safety reasons, Security must be informed prior to driving on the
sidewalks. Vehicles will not be permitted to drive in front of the Library,
beyond the opening to the ground floor. The weight of the vehicles stresses
the concrete causing cracks and leaks to the area below.

  4. What should I do if I am using the facilities at LCC for a purpose other than
    normally scheduled instructional purposes?

A facility use authorization should be on file with Security at least five (5)
days prior to the event. Authorization is obtained from OCET. Security's
charter is to stop any unauthorized use of the facilities. Please contact OCET
    for more information.

  5. What are the parking procedures on campus?

First and foremost, State/County ordinances apply. For example, the
State/County handicap parking rules are applicable on campus. In addition,
LCC has posted signs indicated certain restrictions on parking.

  6. The school has several color codes:
    Red – no parking
    Yellow – loading/unloading only
Green – overflow parking. During certain periods, such as the start of school,
additional parking is required. The school opens the back of campus and allows
parking in the green zones. Signs will be posted to indicate when "Overflow Parking"
    is permitted.

  7. What do I do if I have a need for special security for an event/function?

The regularly scheduled Security Officers on campus have specific duties to
perform. Generally, they are not available to provide security for an event, in
addition to their normal duties. Because of the many variables, please consult
the Security Supervisor to discuss the security of an on-campus event.

  4. How long will the mailroom take to mail bulk mail items?

Bulk mail (200 plus envelops, of the same material) will take three (3) days to
    process.

  5. How do I obtain a LCC key?

Requests for keys require the approval of the Division Chair and the Auxiliary
Service Officer. A five (5) working day interval should be allowed from request
to receipt of new key. The Key Request form can be obtained from your division
secretary. There is a $10.00 key replacement charge for lost keys. Issuance of
master keys especially keys that can open doors beyond the requestor's area of
responsibility, will not be honored, without justification on need.
