Leeward Community College

Accreditation Action Plan

Progress Report

Summary of original problem as explained in the 2000 Self-Study Report:

(Standard 8.3)  The College will vigorously pursue construction of a second access road for the campus.

Explanation of the present status of the problem:

The college has only one access road to the college via Waiawa Road and has pursued the State Department of Transportation to provide a second access road to the college.  The need for a second access road is to evacuate the campus during emergency situations or to provide an alternative access/exit should the existing roadway become inaccessible.

Proposal of possible solutions to the problem:

The Long Range Development Plan provided several scenarios of providing a second access to the college.  One of which is being considered by the State Department of Transportation.

College administrators have attended community forums on traffic solutions in the area and have voiced our concerns at these meeting with DOT officials.

The 2001Legislature appropriated to the State Department of Transportation, Capital Improvement Projects fund in the amount of $5.250 million dollars in FY 2001-2002 for planning, design and construction of the Leeward Community College Second Access Road.

Review of proposal by campus community:

The Director of Administrative Services will be responsible to implement the plan.
