Leeward Community College
Progress Report
Summary of original problem as explained in the 2000 Self-Study Report:
Standard (8.3) The College will look into improving entry access to the LRC and Library.
Explanation of the present status of the problem:
The college was built over 30 years ago. At that time, rules and regulations relating to handicap access were not as stringent. Today with ADA access concerns the college does not comply with the full ADA code. This is not unlawful as buildings built prior to 1978 are “grandfathered in” therefore we are not required to fully comply with current ADA code.
Proposal of possible solutions to the problem:
The college has included and will continue to include this project in its list of Repairs and Maintenance projects to replace the Library building doors with automatic doors to more fully comply with ADA code.
Review of proposal by campus community:
FYI notification via campus forum, bulletin, or placed on campus website.
Implementation of plan:
The Director of Administrative Services will be responsible to implement the plan.
