Leeward Community College

Accreditation Action Plan

Progress Report

Summary of original problem as explained in the 2000 Self-Study Report:

Standard (8.1)  The College will work with the Facilities Planner at the Chancellor’s Office and the faculty and staff to justify the expansion of the College and to examine ways to redesign and reallocate current space according to changing needs and functions. The College will revisit its Long Range Development Plan to support this effort.

Explanation of the present status of the problem:

In 1995, the college completed its LRDP that was approved by the Board of Regents in January 1996.  The Facilities Planning Office in the UHCC Chancellor’s Office coordinates the LRDP process for all of the community colleges.  The LRDP serves as a planning guide for future physical plant development based on updated educational specifications provided by the college.

Although the LRDP serves as a plan for future campus development, there is no guarantee that the development will actually materialize.  The decision to fund campus development is made at the Chancellor, President, BOR, Legislature and the Governor’s level.

The college has examined ways to redesign current space.  We are in the process of renovating the campus center building to improve the Food Service Instructional program.  The DA basement is also being considered for redesign, however funding is limiting any immediate change.  Extramural funds such as Title III and PCATT has provided resources for redesign and reallocation of space for changing needs of the campus.

Proposal of possible solutions to the problem:

The college should continue to seek external funding to redesign and reallocate space needs.

The Director of Administrative Services will continue to advocate the need for additional facilities through the UHCC Facilities Planning Office.

The Provost should also advocate for additional facilities via the Chancellor.

Review of proposal by campus community:

FYI notification via campus forum, bulletin, or placed on campus website.

Implementation of plan:

College administrators will be responsible to implement the plan.
