Minutes Approved:
Minutes from the meeting of October 8, 2001 were approved.
Discussion:
Cliff Togo presented a shared governance document for the committees
review.
Jim Goodman presented a description of the Faculty Senate. The committee once again reaffirmed its view
that the basic problem the committee is addressing is one of understanding and
not one of organization or of policy: The Accreditation Team we are reminded
recommended that the college clearly define the role of all constituencies on
the Campus Council and specifically address the relationship between the
Faculty Senate and the Campus Council.
Cindy Martin clarified her role as compiler and not author of the For
Your Information handbook. She
agreed to assist in the production of a revised edition of the For
Your Information handbook that would better address the nature of
shared governance.
The committee decided that it would complete its work in two steps,
first, a new first chapter of the For Your Information handbook would
be written that would directly address the issue of shared governance and the
roles of constituencies and secondly, the committee would bring to the faculty
the suggested wording of the new first chapter of the For Your Information
handbook. Other changes in the For
Your Information handbook would be made to conform the book to the new
first chapter.
The committee agreed that it is important to accentuate the Faculty
Senate’s budget role as setting policy and the Campus Council’s budget role as
setting priorities.
Action Item:
James West agreed to write a draft of the new first chapter of the For
Your Information handbook and submit his draft to the committee by
November 12, 2001. The next meeting
will revise the draft.
Cindy Martin agreed to assist in coordinating a revision of the For
Your Information handbook.
Next Meeting:
The next meeting is November 19 @ 2:00 P.M. in the Provost’s Conference
Room.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at
3:45 P.M.
