Old Business:

Subcommittee reports were presented and discussed.

  1. Working Conditions Subcommittee Report

Clifford reviewed the sub-committee’s recommendations and discussion among the Committee followed:

(a)   Salary of Administrators should be raised to be competitive with institutions of similar size and complexity.  The committee agrees with the recommendation.  The Executive and Managerial Proposal are being addressed.  The median pay is based on CUPA.  The proposal calls for a 20% increase this July, 40% increase in the following year, and achievement of reaching the median pay level by 2005.

(b)   Professional liability insurance should be provided if at all possible.  The sub-committee acknowledges that all employees are bonded but feel the amount is not enough coverage.  It is uncertain whether or not the State would allow the purchasing of additional insurance coverage for individuals with State funds.

(c)   Reserved parking should be provided for administrators.  Several committee members agree that while administrators are justified to having reserved parking, the recommendation does not belong in this document and agree that it be removed.

(d)   Regular opportunities for professional development should be provided for all administrators.  The committee agrees that this recommendation belongs in the Staff Development and Training sub- committee’s report.

  1. Staff Development, Internship and Training Sub-committee Report.

The committee accepted the report presented by Takako.  The committee agrees with the sub-committee that increased emphasis must be placed on training opportunities for administrators.  The committee also agrees that the most challenging issue is training administrators on human relationship issues.  The committee recognizes the need for administrators to know how to work with personalities.  The committee agrees that internships for potential administrators should be encouraged and supported.

Don will review the accreditation questions tasked by the Provost for the committee to respond to, write up the report and present to the Campus Council.
